As mining companies face increasing environmental scrutiny and stricter operational regulations, dust suppression has become a growing priority across the global mining sector. Tailings dust generated at mine sites can create significant environmental, health, and regulatory challenges, particularly in difficult-to-access areas where traditional suppression methods are often inefficient, expensive, or unsafe.
Copperstone Technologies is addressing this challenge through its autonomous amphibious robots designed to safely access hazardous and inaccessible environments while performing environmental remediation and operational support functions, including dust suppression.
Copperstone’s HELIX robots were originally developed to support environmental monitoring and surveying operations on mine tailings ponds, wastewater lagoons, and other hazardous industrial sites. The Company’s technology enables operators to gather critical operational data while significantly reducing human exposure to dangerous conditions. The Company’s robots can deliver up to 30% more accurate data at up to 69% lower cost compared to conventional methods.
The need for safer tailings management solutions continues to grow globally. According to Earthworks’ Safety First report, there have been 364 known tailings failures worldwide since 1915, including 71 since 2010, resulting in thousands of deaths and widespread environmental damage. Copperstone’s robots are designed to help mining operators improve monitoring, operational intelligence, and environmental management while reducing human risk in hazardous areas.
The Company has now expanded those capabilities into the growing dust suppression market. Many tailings areas are difficult to access using conventional equipment, forcing mine operators to rely on costly and often ineffective alternatives such as helicopters. Copperstone’s robots are capable of traversing rugged and unstable terrain while performing targeted dust suppression activities in areas that are otherwise difficult to reach safely and efficiently.
As mining operators increasingly prioritize worker safety, environmental stewardship, and operational efficiency, Copperstone Technologies is positioning itself at the intersection of robotics, sustainability, and industrial innovation, demonstrating how autonomous systems can help modernize some of the world’s most challenging industrial environments. Dust suppression alone represents an estimated total addressable market annually of approximately $1.7 billion globally, and Copperstone has already demonstrated early traction within the sector, booking six dust suppression pilot projects to date in 2026, with two already completed.
